Army Bands – Capability Day

The second of my days shooting for Army Recruiting Group – this time purely at Kneller Hall in Twickenham, the HQ of Army music.  Here I had full access to the Bands of the Irish Guards, Kings’ Division, Royal Engineers and Army Air Corps.  The idea has been to improve the imagery that the Armed Forces has for their recruiting purposes…. and this is the third such shoot I have done for that purpose.

It was once again a huge pleasure to be photographing incredibly skilled musicians while they are playing such beautiful music.  The day started in the rehearsal rooms where trainee conductors took turns to get the best out of the musicians.  We then moved to the Square to see the Kings’ Division and Irish Guards practicing some of the more ceremonial pieces.

I then went to the museum to see 3 brand new recruits practicing in a brass quintet with some more experienced guys, before heading off to one of the indoor stages to photograph something a little more modern by the band of the Army Air Corps.

The brief was a little more detailed than last time – one of the images was to for young, female, French Horn players…..quite niche!
