One-2-One Training – Jim

Jim came to my studio to learn all about his new camera (a Pentax!), to try to progress with camera flash, and to understand a bit about post-processing techniques.

Once we had thew basics sorted (and I quite like the Pentax; pretty intuitive – other than the maximum flash sync speed of 1/160th) we spent some time getting the lighting aspects sorted using off-camera flash.  The basic of lighting were explained using the studio strobes and the practiced using the portable flash units and radio triggers.

The weather was spiffing – for the end of October; such a beautiful day for day 2.  This made the model session a little easier, because Camy came prepared for an hour or so on top of the hill above the studio.  We used just one flash, some ND added, and also a reflector for the shots just using the sun.  Back in the studio we majored on composition and built confidence that once the lighting is sorted, we could really go to town on getting the “look” right.
