Formal Personal Portraiture
It’s nice to be asked to do specific portraits, and therefore fun to work strictly to a brief. David is leaving the army and wanted some specific images as a momento, as well as an updated headshot for future employment/website use. The weather was terrible, and I was keen to get David up the hill behind the house in uniform – to give an impression of the 18th and 19th century military portrait style.
So we started in the studio (even taking inspiration from a military portrait of Ernest Hemingway)
In all (including walking up the hill) the shoot took 2 hours. The great thing I have found with my “flash-pushing” techniques is that we don’t need sunset skies to get the drama – just the right sort of clouds!
David now has a collection of nearly 50 portraits to choose from!
