Poppy Fields along the A303
After all this beautiful weather (well, a couple of days!) I checked the forecast and decided on an early start. I have driven past the poppy field on the A303 just east of here a few times and thought “what a super sunrise that must be – the sun rising from the east would be the perfect backdrop to these beautiful poppies!”
So I headed out at 4:25 this morning, arrived at the field ……in the greyest of starts! No sunrise evident at all. I shall have to be more precise with the forecasting!
Still, the poppies were looking good in any case, so a few bracketed shots would allow mw a little potential for some post-processing to add a little bite; the job the sun was going to do!
I took a couple of shots with the wide-angle on a small aperture, but for the close-ups I like shooting wide open in these circumstances, and instead of macro, I shot at 200mm at the closest focussing point (roughly1.4 metres).
The bokeh is always beautiful with the 70-200mm at f2.8, and separating subject from background really allows you to concentrate on the subject. When photographing, I always select the background first! It’s my first thought always with close focussing.
