Lidl National Marketing and Recruiting Campaign

The first quarter of 2016 was extremely busy – I had a number of important shoots, including trips abroad and some senior members of the Royal Family.  However, the biggest shoot was through the brilliant “All About the Idea” shooting Lidl’s campaign to boost their recruiting.  This involved travel around the UK to various stores and distribution centres and of course the Lidl HQ in Wimbledon.  We shot for an entire month (and thanks to Mark Brightwell for his excellent support on the four days when I was busy on other things).

The aim of the shoot was to photograph virtually every role of those people who work for Lidl whether that be in management in the HQ, or right the way to the store assistants in local Lidl shops.  The brief was to photograph people in context; so “doing what they do day-to-day”, as well as photographing them all individually against the usual Lidl blue gradient background.

It has been a real pleasure meeting so many people (I think we photographed 75 people in total) and to get a real insight into the inner workings of a significant supermarket business…..and they are impressive (95% recycling, very little wastage, amazing processes in the distribution centres, the very high quality of their beef…and learning that there should be 4 blue ones in each package of their version of the liquorice all-sorts!)

The post-production was a mammoth task.  We stared the process with 5,436 images over the month.  The initial edit brought this down to 635…and the final selection came down to 285 images.  You can see some of them on their careers website here.
