Prince Edward in the Peak District

Countryfile – Earl of Wessex

Just before the summer, I shot the recruitment images for Lidl supermarkets in the UK.  It was a very detailed and well-planned shoot that lasted about 5 weeks in total.  At about the mid-point, I had been asked to come and shoot the entire day of the visit of Prince Edward to celebrate there 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award Scheme….in the Peak district.  At the time, we were shooting for Lidl in Northampton, so actually not too far, and the Lidl guys were very accommodating (also having Mark Brightwell assisting to cover the gap helped too!)20160504-WessexDofE-63-87

So I zipped up to the hills in the Peak District and met the Earl as he arrived by helicopter.  As the only photographer, I was in the fortunate position to follow every part of the day, and it was fun talking through things I had done in my life with Prince Edward as we walked between groups and locations.  However, his interaction with the young DoE participants was brilliant – he was very engaging and listened with interest to everyone he talked to – he was very informed and a brilliant ambassador for the DoE – he obviously enjoyed the day.

Part of the day was taken up with some interviews Prince Edward did with Countryfile about the DoE 60th Anniversary and was shown 2 weeks ago on BBC1.  Helen Skelton was the presenter and I took the stills for the BBC.
