Well, it was a tricky time this time!  The Nepalese government called national elections half-way through the dates of my planned tour.  So… movement was tricky.  So we decided to do fewer images but make them stronger (compositionally) and a little more different to the usual images of Gurkhas who had served in either WW2 or Malaya/Borneo.

Actually, it was great fun, and we had some time to set-up the lighting – be a little more daring with how we lit the subjects (often shooting into the sun and using flash at full power to bring back the shadows).

Photographing very old people can be difficult at the best of times, but photographing those who are deaf and quite blind and speak no english brings its own challenges!
