Armoured Vehicle Iraq

Corporate Marketing

In October I headed off to Iraq to cover some commercial work for marketing and annual report requirements for a company.  It was a great trip, but needed me to be on my toes with my gear and my ideas for the images.

I had already visited a company in London that was designing the web/report designs for this company and had some idea of the sort of images needed.

But Iraq is the sort of place where you can’t just go out into the sunshine and take pictures.  There was a big security requirement, and I was taken out in a 3 armoured vehicle convoy each time I even went out through the gates of the compound.

The company was very professional and looked after me well – although each shoot was pressured for time and location recces beforehand were very limited.  I was also wearing body armour throughout!

So, I carried 3 x SB800 flash units and some pocket-wizards.  I took my Nikon D4 and backed up with a Fujifilm X100 – I couldn’t carry much gear!

So the theme for me was to stay low and move fast.  I really enjoyed it!  The final shots of the vehicles and the flares behind were really pressured as the team had already seen the Iraq Oil Police hot-footing to our location.  I has one of the security guards holding a flash, and I had the other on a light-weight tripod.  Pressure? Nah!
