photoNepal 2015 – Looking for Adventure?

We have now gone firm on dates for next year’s photoNepal and have chosen 6 – 15 February 2015.  The weather at this time of year is generally superb – cool air with clear skies and often perfect views of the high Himalayas.

It has been a fascinating year, and photoNepal is now forming the bedrock of courses that we run; after all, it’s where we started.  To give you a feel, we have included two new courses: photoPoland which this year is already fully subscribed and will be heading to Gdansk (where? I hear you ask!)  This is the northern Port in Poland that borders the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. (Why? I also hear you ask!)

Well, Gdansk is famous as the city where the bringing down of communist rule in Central Europe really began, as it was the birthplace of the solidarity movement headed by Lech Walesa.

What promises to be really interesting is that some of the beautiful old city was destroyed during WWII and replaced by communist inspired building in the 1950s.  So we will try to capture that dichotomy.

The other major trip we have will take place shortly after photoNepal, and this is photoSriLanka 26th February – 8th March 2015.  We will be heading to the Gal Oya National Park in eastern Sri Lanka – a largely unknown but protected part of Sri Lanka, with amazing wildlife, including elephants, deer, buffalo, leopards, monkeys, crocodiles, eagles and albatrosses.  Keep your eyes open, we are advertising this shortly for only 10 (individuals or couples) places at www.photosrilanka.co.uk

So, back to photoNepal.  2015 is the 200th Anniversary of the formation of the Brigade of Gurkhas, so it is really special this year.  There are events happening in London and across Brigade of Gurkha locations.  In Nepal there will be some significant celebrations, and an Everest attempt, for the first time, by serving Gurkhas.

We will take just 4 people (yep – it’s that exclusive!) to Kathmandu and Pokhara, and some remote parts of Nepal where ex-Gurkhas from WWII or Burma and beyond still live in fairly harsh conditions.  We will photograph them in their homes and help capture their stories before they are lost forever.  We will have access that other groups cannot, because we will be looked after by the network of welfare centres that the Gurkha Welfare Trust administer.  This access is unparalleled – so exciting stuff!  For more details, visit www.photoNepal.co.uk
