One-2-One Training – Dale

So I have just got back from Dubai photographing a circus (more of that in a future post!) and the first thing on my plate is another of my personal, hands-on, one-to-one training courses.  My latest student on this 2 day course was Dale who is looking to hone her skills with a view to a more permanent role as photographer.  And she is good.

One of those people with a natural eye.  I loved this course, because Dale came with a Nikon D70 and the original push/pull 80-200 f2.8 pro lens.  My first digital Nikon was a D70 back in the day, and it was great to hold it again – if only to see the rather large improvements to aspects of the camera – not least being trying to understand how I ever coped with the 1 inch low resolution screen on the back to preview the images!  I mean, c’mon guys, we look at the images in huge detail now and can make a decision on the viability or not of an image based on what we can see on the back of the camera with our 3inch plus hi-res screens and detailed focus capability.  How did we manage before? (Well, we are good photographers, right…)  In fact my best selling picture of a cow in a misty field was taken with the D70, so there you go.

As usual, and to really explain directional and strobe lighting, we had a model.  Louisa came on board the day before the shoot because my booked model had cancelled – there is something about male models who seem too scared to turn up for my shoots!  Why is that, I wonder?

Still Louisa was brilliant, and Dale, well she was “rock and roll” and got some great images using a few set-ups.

In all, another great course – I really enjoy them.  Dale has just sent me an email….:

I wanted to say an enormous thank you to you!

I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed the last two days; you have demystified so much and introduced me to so many new & exciting ideas, and your patience was such that I didn’t ever feel awkward about asking you even the most basic of questions.

So, watch this space! I can’t wait to put into practice all you taught me….”
Thanks Dale.  Can’t wait to see your images too!
