Field Marshal Chapple

The next phase of my “Gurkhas Behind the Lens” project sees Field Marshal Sir John Chapple GCB, CBE and Private Shekhar Thapa paired for the photographs.  There are not many Field Marshals remaining, and FM Sir John has a very long history with Gurkhas.  Shekhar is fairly new to cameras, but did incredibly well with his very first formal portrait being that of such an important character, who didn’t have much time free.

The images were taken at the Gurkha Museum in Winchester, and although it was sorely tempting to focus on the Field Marshal’s formal portrait hanging there, the light in the dining room was more “enjoyable”!

Just one flash, fired at the ceiling, but also using a shoot-through umbrella between flash and subject.
